Grandma's Melodies

Running in Fear

You choose to run. Your legs tremble with fear, but you ignore it, pushing yourself faster with every heartbeat. Behind you, the growls of the scary, shadowy figure get louder and your heart pounds in your chest. The sight of the giant monster rushing after you sends a chill down your spine, but in your pocket, you feel the gentle reminder of Granny's jam jar, its weight becomes comforting rather than daunting.

You keep running until you are at a safe distance from the monstrous beast. The memory of Granny's kitchen and the delicious jam she always made flashes in your mind. You glance back over your shoulder, only to see a somewhat unexpected sight. With a terrifying swipe, the crescent beast swallows the glowing moon, its silver light dwindling until the only glow left is from tiny start lights. Out of breath and panting, you stumble and halt, your fears creeping back in and wrapping around you like the chilling night wind.

All of a sudden, you feel a sharp regret pang in your chest. Perhaps you should've stood your ground, maybe you could've used the magic in Granny's jam and your gifted songs to face this monster. A wave of guilt washes over you. But then, it's too late now. You can only stand in the shade of the starlit darkness, wishing you had the power of Granny's jam and the courage to stand up to your fears. Tears prick the corners of your eyes as the silence of the night grows deeper, and loneliness engulfs you.
