Grandma's Melodies

Safe Retreat
With your heart pounding in your chest, you manage to slip away from the moon-eating monster. You run and run until the roaring is just a faint echo and the shaking stops. You made it. You're safe for now, and the world won't end tonight. You might've been scared, but you remember something important - being scared doesn't mean you're weak. Living to fight another day is just as brave, don't you think? You vow to yourself, and to the silent, darkened world around you, that next time, you’ll be back with stronger magic to defeat the monster once and for all.
As you cuddle up in your safe place, you close your eyes and think about grandma's special jam and your magical songs. You realize how powerful you are with them by your side - you can fight gigantic, moon-eating monsters under the cloak of night! You remember the rhythm, you remember the hum, the sweetness of the jam in your mouth, and the way it made sparks dance in front of your eyes. You think hard about new rhymes, of ways to make your song stronger - to hit the high notes even higher. More importantly, you remember what your grandma said when she gave you the song: 'the biggest strength lays in the bravest heart', and things start to make sense.
Days turn into weeks, and you practice your new and improved song during the daytime when none of the nocturnal monsters can hear. Without the moonlight shining from the sky, the world around you turns darker and colder each night but you know, deep inside, that you will bring the moon back. During the nights, you observe the monster from a safe distance to learn about its weaknesses. Soon, you'd gather your friends, armed with grandma’s magical jam and the melody of victory in your heart, ready to take back the night and its bright shiny moon. Time to sing high and loud, time to spread the courage far and wide!
