The Treasure Thief.

Boat's hidden peril

You shake off your squirrel jitters and approach the lonely boat. As a clever forest dweller, you know every nook can hold a surprise, whether pleasant or not. The boat is old and wobbly, its mossy bottom splintered, but you press on, not wanting to back down. You scamper up the side of the boat, your tail flicking nervously behind you. Pouring all your courage into your little heart, you carefully step onto the boat's playing floor, but oh no! It's slippery with moss and you lose your footing.

Thump! It's your soft but pragmatic little head, bouncing off the floor of the rocking boat. You stagger back up with wincing flinches, blinking back at the boat, presenting an unintended test for your bravery. You shake your head, tiny paws gingerly touching the throbbing spot. Dizzy and flapping, you diplomaticly decide to retreat for now, making a mental note to return later with more caution. The boat has not divulged its secrets yet, and who knows what might be hiding within its timeworn planks.

A quick glance at your tail only gathers your resolve. Muddy but majestic, it reminds you of the narrow escape you had. Visions of magical acorns dance in your mind. That's what eventually gets you, the not-so-little squirrel, back on that mission, resolute and set. Sluggish and swirly for some days, busy biting the yummy berries and the crunchy grubs you could cram in between, you regain composure while you explore the mysterious forest, around the curve of every tree trunk lined up, under the soothing moonlight. The magic acorns are waiting, and nothing, not even a tumble from a mossy old boat, can hold you back!
