The Treasure Thief.
Cunning squirrel's shrill
Using your craftiness and fast-thinking, you gather your courage and let out a big, shrieking squeak. The wolves, taken aback by the loud noise, prance around in surprise. Their big yellow eyes bulged, and their bushy, grey tails fluffed up in alarm. It feels really funny and give you a nice, warm feeling. You feel like you just did a really good prank!
But then, your happy feeling is replaced by a bit of worry. Your sharp, squirrel ears pick up a loud noise. It sounds like... rumbly. You've heard this kind of noise before. You think about how Teacher Owl had once taught you about loud, crushing waves of snow called avalanches. You look around, hoping to not see one coming.
And then you see it: a cliff. It looks taller than any tree you've climbed. Beside the cliff is a river, all fast and noisy. There’s also a little warm spot under a big tree, though it’s teeny tiny and doesn't have yummy leaves or acorns. It reminds you of your comfy hole back near the Green Hollow. You remember stealing that shiny, gold walnut from King Raven, and how it was tough to decide how to do that. Now, you have to think fast again. Will you try to climb the big cliff, or try swimming in the swift river, or squeeze into the little warm spot? You're small and quick, and smart as squirrels come... surely you can figure this out!
